The Nick Atoms’ First Album Rescued From The Ashes

Before the end, there was a beginning. Before we played our last show at MarsCon, we played our first show at MarsCon, and from this show, our first album was born.

Rescued from the sands of time — Dr. Ted Nelson appears to possess the only functional copy — is our first album, Live Beyond Mars. The tracks on this album are from the live recording of our show at MarsCon 2001 — for better or for worse. Released at CONvergence 2001, the album was produced in a limited quantity of 30 units and was thought lost.

Now you can possess this most rare of The Nick Atoms recordings. Witness Dr. Ted Nelson’s impatience at Wyngarde’s improvisation! Hear Coburn mispronouncing his robotic brother’s name as “Winegarde”! Thrill to early versions of songs that would get a proper recording later! You can also hear a bonus version of “Jet Jaguar”.

“Stop Boring Music!” EP Available Now

We’ve just added more free music to The Nick Atoms Historical Society! The EP Stop Boring Music! brings to you some of the last music recorded by The Nick Atoms in 2005. The songs were recorded and sent to local radio stations to drum up interest in the band. Did it work? Well, our cover of “Believe It Or Not” did inspire a local music show to do an episode dedicated to covers by local bands.

You get “Sidewalker”, the song we performed on the TV show “Strictly Original”; you get a new recording of “Cathy!” with a more, eh, forceful ending; you get the ode to fairground carnival rides gone wrong, “Tornado”; you get the aforementioned “Believe It Or Not”, the theme song to TV’s The Greatest American Hero; you get the start and stop filled version of “Land Of The Lost”.

“Live Beyond Mars” Is Beyond Repair

Do you have a copy of our first and only live album, Live Beyond Mars? Does it work? If it doesn’t work, did you happen to rip it to MP3 before the CD failed? Then we want to talk to you!

Live Beyond Mars was recorded at MarsCon 2001 and released at CONvergence 2001. Only 30 copies were made, of which, at least three have failed and are not recognized as audio CDs by any computer that tries. We would love to release this music to our fans, but we need to locate either a working copy of the CD, or MP3 versions of the songs.

If you are in possession of this fables treasure and are willing to share it with us and the world, please contact us at band@thenickatoms.org to arrange transportation. Women will forever call your name in times of ecstasy if you come through for us.

Request “Vader Boy” by the great Luke Ski f/ Carrie Dahlby and The Nick Atoms

Luke Ski’s new song about Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith entitled “Vader Boy” (a parody of “Skater Boy” by Avril Lavigne) had its radio world premiere on “The Dr. Demento Show” this past weekend on Sunday, May 8th, 2005!!! The lead vocals are sung exquisitely by Carrie Dahlby (a.k.a. Pixelene, Carrie-tastic, and/or the person who puts together the Luke Ski fanzine). Carrie has had five years of collegiate professional opera vocal training, and she did an excellent job recreating the vocal stylings of this pop princess. On the instrumental front, the rocking background music was provided by those madmen from Minneapolis, The Nick Atoms! Dr. Ted, Coburn, and Wyngarde cranked it up to 13 for this one! Staying still while listening to this Atomized version of the song will violate the very laws of physics themselves! Luke, of course, is heard in there too, doing various voices and shtick as the Revenge of the Sith cast of characters. So trust us, this intergalactic amalgam of dementia talent will destroy all opposition — just like the Death Star destroyed Alderaan!
